modern jazz guitar – quintuplets

Hi guys, had a little break of this practice post posting. And overall social media and all that.

I’m not gone… Just sometimes need a break from all the online stuff.

Here is some quintuplet practice ideas for you.

Try this quintuplet exercise with metronome placement only on 1 or only 2 ( 3 or 4). So remove all the other beats in the bar. 60:4 = 15bpm. I hope that makes sense.

I can go in more depth if you book a private lesson.

But please don’t hesitate to comment underneath this post if anything is unclear or if you get any value out of this.

Here is more quintuplet ideas with broken quintuplets .

taken out of jerry bergonzi ‘melodic rhythms’ .

Later adding some ideas how to get your head around broken quintuplets.

Here is an example how to start practicing broken quintuplets with pro metronome. Example of only first bar ! ( from the pic from the Bergonzi book)

( make sure to move on from this though! and be able to groove this with a normal metronome 10/8 becomes 2/4 )

Remove the first quintuplet first… ( gray is quiet) . ( increase tempo slowly too..)

Next – remove the rest of groove.. keep playing the groove yourself! But metronome no longer tells you…

Keep trying things… Remove one of the beats next…

Have fun!
